Eagle Activity Highlights

The eagles are doing very well and are well-fed. They are vocalizing calls that communicate the presence of our boats. They have energy to spare, and it has not been cold. They are not desperate. River levels did not change much over the course of the week, which means the existing carcasses were eaten down. We are expecting to see new carcasses from Coho Salmon flush into the river if we get a big rain. The eagles are not fighting and are visibly thick from building up their fat stores from eating so much salmon. The birds are very active on the river, and because they are not desperate for food, they are avoiding areas near the roads. For the first time this year, we are seeing the birds as active in the mornings as in the afternoons. They are spread out very evenly throughout the 9-mile section.
